Working Towards a Better Tomorrow

Students Today Leaders Forever (STLF) is an organization focused on giving back and serving communities all across the country. STLF was a national non-profit founded in September 2003 at the University of Minnesota by four freshmen who wanted to make a positive impact over their spring break. They created what became known as the Pay It Forward (PIF) Tour, which is a community-service bus trip where college students travel to multiple cities, performing service projects and participating in self-reflection and team-building activities along the way. Our mission is to reveal leadership through service, relationships, and action. In total, 791 Pay It Forward Tours were completed with 30,475 total participants throughout the past 16 years. 


The UW-Madison chapter of STLF was started in 2009 and our first PIF Tour sent out 40 Badgers during Spring Break of 2010. We continued to grow each year and by 2016 we were sending out 5 full buses of 45 UW-Madison students. Anyone who has been on a PIF Tour can attest to the life-changing nature of the experience and the creation of friendships that will last forever. 


Unfortunately, the national organization Students Today Leaders Forever dissolved in May of 2018. The UW-Madison chapter, however, made the decision to become a completely student-run organization on our campus. We made this decision because we have seen how powerful it can be for a group of college students to spend their Spring Break helping others. We want incoming students to have the same life-changing experiences on PIF tours that keep us coming back every year, and to provide them with opportunities to unleash their leadership potential beyond all expectations. 


This past school year our PIF tours and on-campus presence were very successful despite our loss of national funding. We sent out 3 full buses of 45 UW-Madison students to destinations such as New Orleans, Savannah, and Nashville. We had a very successful year, however, we are looking to continue raising funds to help sustain the organization moving forward. The money we fundraise will be used to provide need-based financial aid to allow more students access to our PIF tours.
